I had been incarcerated for four years for some bad choices I made early in my life and had no idea what to do with my life once I got out. All I knew was that I didn’t want to go back to the life I had been living and that I really wanted to be somebody. But what is a person who has served time and has no “real” work experience (or even a High School Diploma for that matter) do?
I sat down with Moving Beyond Hope one day looking for answers and they came up a customized game plan for my life and helped me discover my talents. It turns out that what I actually wanted to do was become a barber. After learning what I wanted to do, MBH helped me enroll at Akron Barber College and followed up with me regularly to make sure I was on track for success. I finished with perfect attendance and flying colors and am now state licensed and board approved.
I am now using my license to manage a barber shop in downtown Akron and am working with MBH on a plan to open my own barber shop soon. On top of my career success I also have my own apartment for the first time in my life (I am 35), have my own vehicle, and am paying my bills on time.
I am so grateful to MBH for helping me every step of the way on this journey and giving me hope once again.
